Fitz Accused Of Gunning Down Victim, Also 27
HARRISONBURG — Police are still searching for the suspect in the shooting that killed a 27-year-old man in Harrisonburg Tuesday afternoon.
Delano D. Fitz, also 27, is wanted on a first-degree murder charge, as well as possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, according to a statement from police.
Officers responded to a report of a shooting along the 200 block of Commerce Drive in the northeast section of the city at about 1:30 Tuesday afternoon.
They found the victim unresponsive in the parking lot of a townhome complex near the Valley Plaza Shopping Center, located at the intersection of North Main and East Washington streets. He had been shot at least once and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. The identity of the victim has not been independently confirmed.
Officers set up a perimeter and began searching for a suspect. During the course of their investigation, police found evidence that implicated Fitz, who should be considered armed and dangerous, policesay.
Fitz is described as a black male, approximately 5 feet 4 inches tall and 168 pounds. Authorities are asking anyone who has seen the suspect or knows where he is to call Crime Solvers at 540-574-5050. Tipsters, who can remain anonymous, may also text their message to "CRIMES" (274637).
