CrossKeys Winery Gives Preview Of New Operation

CROSS KEYS - Rockingham County's only winery is set to debut Memorial Day weekend. But CrossKeys Vineyards owners Bob and Nikoo Bakhtiar opened the doors to neighbors Thursday and to an invitation-only gathering Friday for tours and taste-testing. Sited on 125 acres of rolling hills in southeastern Rockingham County, the winery aspires to be a community center, much as the Cross Keys Tavern had been, said winery General Manager Mark Parsons. The tavern, built more than a half-century before the Civil War, once stood on Cross Keys Road, about two miles from the winery. Visitors to the former two-story wooden structure were once greeted by the symbol of two keys crossed. CrossKeys Vineyards, 6011 Timber Ridge Road, uses the same symbol to greet visitors to the Tuscan-style winery building, which matches the nearby estate house completed four years ago. ... Click for entire article
