Melvin L. Myers


Melvin Lemmon Myers, 83, of Bridgewater, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at Bridgewater Home.


Melvin was born in Maryland on March 24, 1930, a son of the late Martha Viola (Lemmon) and David Earl Myers.


He was a professor at Bridgewater College and coached there for 23 years. He also taught and coached in public schools for 10 years.


Melvin was a member of Bridgewater Church of the Brethren and the Bridgewater College Athletic Hall of Fame. He was also inducted into the Carroll County Athletics Hall of Fame. He loved his sweetheart of 63 years, family and grandchildren as well as traveling, playing and watching sports and his dogs.


On Dec. 22, 1951, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Louise (Fike) Myers, who survives.


Melvin is also survived by two daughters, Linda Arnette and husband, Mike, of Goochland, Va., and Diane Stevens and husband, Bobby, of Bridgewater; a son, Bruce Myers and wife, Julie, of Morrisville, N.C.; a sister, Doris Steinberg and her husband of Hanover, Pa.; a brother, David Myers and his wife of Ellicott City, Md.; grandchildren, Jennifer Arnette, Matt Stevens and wife, Leslie, Scott Stevens and fiancée, Gavin Sands and Samantha Myers; great- grandchildren, Bradley and Tyler Stevens; and several nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Montoya and husband, Alex.


A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2014, at the Lantz Chapel in the Bridgewater Retirement Community.
