April's Fools day is coming shortly so one wonders if a recent federal announcement just came about 10 days early.
The announcement from the State Department must be from the same batch of kidders who, due to "curiosity," peeked into the files of three presidential candidates.
But, at least that silliness did not cost taxpayers any money. This project will. The United States has announced it will spend $24 million in aid to Egypt to help the Egyptians build a border fence among the Gaza-Egypt border.
The Egyptians obviously wanted American expertise in this matter because the federal government has been so successful and efficient in building a fence on our southern border that keeps out illegal aliens.
Those who endorse such a fence are often called xenophobic and racist. So are the Egyptians xenophobic and racist too? What do they have against poor Palestinians?
The fence is in response to Palestinian militants who blew a hole in the current wall between the two nations that allowed hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to flock into Egypt in late January and early February.
The American Army Corps of Engineers plans to send teams to Egypt to help push forward the border fence plans.
Shouldn't the taxpayers - facing an economic slowdown in the nation - ask a few questions? Such as, can't Egyptians fund their own fence? Why do they need American aid?
And, although it was a while ago, the Egyptians built the pyramids. Do they need American engineering help to build a simple fence?
It must be an early April's Fool joke. If not, citizens should demand more fiscal responsibility from their fiscally reckless government
