The story by Hannah Northey on “Ethanol, Friend or Foe,” Aug. 29) was a good start for the Daily News-Record, but further follow-ups are needed.
I believe that Ethanol is a total myth perpetrated upon the peoples of the world. I also believe that President Bush, who has never found a penny of tax monies he doesn’t want to spend (I voted twice for him, so shoot me) is funding cronies of the corporate farm type and misleading the public.
Ethanol, as presented in the Environmental Protection Agency’s Fuel Economy Guide shows that E85, 15 percent Ethanol impregnated gasoline, produces 24 to 30 percent less mileage per gallon than 100 percent gasoline.
We are all paying more for all corn-related agricultural products. Livestock farmers pay more for feed. All other farmers pay more for related products. The only winners are the corporate farmers who live in New York, Washington, D.C. or even Shanghai.
According to the EPA, Ethanol will cause us to be 24 to 30 percent more dependent upon foreign oil and we will not reduce the greenhouse gases or global warming or even the amount of gasoline used.
