The Democratic Party is split. Some supporters of Obama say they will switch to McCain if Hillary becomes the party's standard bearer. So too say the supporters of Clinton if Obama makes it.
Just a year or so ago, Howard Dean predicted a different party would be in the Oval Office in January 2009 — and a woman at that. The times they have changed, Obama is looking less like a messiah; Hillary, more like a spinner of tall tales. They have become what they've always been: politicians, hell bent on egotistical pursuits without regard to the American people or their political party. Enter Al Gore, no light-weight in fabricating history (inventor of the Internet; he and Tipper were the models for Erich Segal's "Love Story;" advocate — but not practitioner — of a Green America; sharer of a Nobel Prize and Academy Award, for a flawed documentary, etc).
It's a shame but, as Pogo famously said, "We have met the enemy and he is us." John McCain, welcome to the White House. Perhaps you'll add a line in your inaugural address, thanking your fellow Americans on the left side of the aisle.
